200 players, £27,000 raised

We held our second fundraising golf day of the year on Friday 5th August at Donnington Valley Golf Club, Newbury raising a staggering £27,000.

The event was a complete success with 50 teams of four, totalling 200 players.

The winning team was ‘Only The Breast’ from Clere Golf Newbury.

The longest drive was won by Shaun Thorp from Hungerford.

Nearest to the pin was won by Mickey Cummins from Newbury.

After a hot day on the course the players enjoyed food and drink in the glorious grounds of the Post Barn followed by an auction hosted by Kevin Bale who stook in at the last minute but certainly managed to raise a few laughs with his witty jokes and banter! The auction alone raised £4,000.

CEO Trevor Goodall was delighted with the success of the day saying ‘It was another fantastic golf day, our 28th now.  So much money was raised for sick and premature babies that every penny makes a difference.  We have projects at Basingstoke and Royal Berkshire at the moment and recent equipment bought has included a ‘CritiCool’ unit which is used to cool down the brains of very sick babies to help prevent brain injury, and a transport incubator to transport very sick babies to specialist units after delivery.

What stood out for me on the day were the numerous smiles on the course and the fantastic generosity of the players who continue to support the event each year. I am just overwhelmed by the success of the day and the amount of money raised.’

The next charity golf day will be held at Calcot Golf Club on 9th September.

We would like to thank all those who took part, the volunteers on the day and the staff from Donnington Valley.  Images from the day can be found on our gallery page.
